With nearly nine out of ten British Jews reporting that they participated in at least one Chanukah candle-lighting ceremony last year, Chanukah is one of those moments in the Jewish calendar when Jews everywhere connect to the broader collective of the Jewish People, to the land of Israel, and to the stories of the victory of the Maccabees and the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem.
How many Jews live in the UK today? How many of them are ex-pat Israelis? How many of them are married to non-Jews? Who amongst them might celebrate Christmas as well? And what proportion of them say ‘feeling part of the Jewish People’ is essential to their Jewishness? This Chanukah, JPR shed some light on Jews in the UK.
Whether you light the Chanukah candles every day throughout the week, or just once or twice at some point during the holiday, here are eight facts about Jews in the UK you can download, print and share with your family, friends and colleagues.

It will cost JPR £1.5 million to continue to do its essential work in 2025, and as a registered charity, we rely on the generosity of donors to undertake our vital research.
