This night of all nights: The celebration of Pesach (Passover) among Jews in the UK

Seder attendance ranks as one of the most widely-practised Jewish rituals, second behind participating in a Chanukah candle lighting ceremony

In this report:

This factsheet report shares new data on Pesach seder attendance in the UK. It compares seder participation with that of other Jewish holidays and festivals, examines which types of Jews are most and least likely to attend a seder dinner, and brings the latest available data on seder attendance worldwide. The study is based on the responses of over 4,800 adult British Jews to the JPR 2025 Jews in Uncertain Times Survey.

Some of the key findings in the factsheet report:

  • 84% of respondents reported attending a Pesach (Passover) seder in 2025, making seder night one of the most celebrated events in the Jewish calendar.
  • Participation remains high across all age groups, but younger adults, who are more likely to have children in the household, are somewhat more likely to attend than older respondents.
  • Households with school-age children are more likely to celebrate seder night than households without, and households with children in Jewish schools are more likely to do so than households with children in non-Jewish schools.
  • Pesach is celebrated across the religious spectrum: even among Jews who describe themselves as secular or culturally Jewish, who report weak levels of religiosity, and those who are not members of a synagogue, participation rates remain well above 50%.
  • The most recent available data suggest that Pesach is among the most celebrated events across Jewish communities worldwide.
