The total population of Cyprus on 1 January 2016 stood at 848,300. Its population grew by 1,300 in 2015.
As of 1 January 2016, the core Jewish population of Cyprus was estimated to be 100 (0.01% of the wider population), and the enlarged Jewish population was estimated at 300 (0.04% of the wider population).
An estimated 400 Cypriot residents or citizens qualify for Israeli citizenship under the Law of Return.
The overwhelming majority of the Jewish population consists of recent expatriates from Israel, Russia and the UK. In 2005, the first synagogue on the island was opened in Larnaca.
