As of 1 January 2016, the core Jewish population of Russia was estimated to be 179,500 (0.12% of the wider population), and the enlarged Jewish population was estimated at 380,000 (0.26% of the wider population).
Since 1990, over 1 million Russian Jews have emigrated, with over 900,000 emigrating to Israel.
In 2015, 6,589 Russian citizens emigrated to Israel, an increase from 4,553 in 2014.
An estimated 570,000 Russian citizens qualify for Israeli citizenship under the Law of Return.
The majority of the Russian Jewish population is concentrated in Moscow (estimated at approximately 100,000), St Petersburg, together with many smaller population centres.
