Celebrate Succot by printing our paper chain decoration, adding insights about Jewish communities worldwide to your Succah
Succot (סוּכּוֹת in Hebrew) is an eight-day Jewish holiday, part of the Jewish New Year High Holydays. The name is a reference to the temporary dwellings the Israelites lived in following the Exodus from Egypt. It is known by several other names, such as Chag HaAsif, the ‘Festival of Ingathering’ or harvest festival, as well as “Z'man Simchateinu" or Season of our Joy, reflecting gratitude for the harvest and joy in community.
Succot is redolent with symbolic practices such as building a ‘succah’, or temporary hut, in back gardens or on balconies. The succah is often decorated with fruit, pictures and other decorations such as paper chains. So, in honour of the festival this year, we have created an updated edition of our paper chain of facts, incorporating key findings from our recent research.
If you have a succah, or if you are visiting friends or family with one, print the JPR chain and hang it in it. It will add some colour and provide plenty of food for thought and discussion. Each colourful strip holds a nugget of information about Jews in the UK and around the world. All you need to do is print our Succot paper chain, then gather your family members or friends to help cut and stick it, before hanging it in your succah.
Chag same’ach from all of us at JPR!
