Take part in JPR’s 2022 Synagogue Membership Survey

JPR’s 2022 Synagogue Membership Survey is now live. Make sure your community is represented.

The Institute for Jewish Policy Research is delighted to announce that the 2022 Synagogue Membership Survey is now underway. Invitations to take part in the survey have been sent to Rabbis, community leaders and administrators in many synagogues across the UK.

The core purpose of JPR’s Synagogue Survey is to collect data on synagogue membership in order to understand how British Jews are choosing to affiliate with their communities, and how this affiliation is evolving over time. JPR’s researchers will publish the results early in 2023 to provide synagogues and synagogue movements across the UK with an understanding of how the changes in membership they are experiencing fit within a national context, and perhaps more importantly, provide community leaders and policymakers with the updated estimations, enabling them to provide for their communities’ needs and prepare for the future. The survey is also significant as it allows JPR to assess the representativeness of national surveys that include data about the Jewish population.

Please do not worry if you have not received an invitation. It is possible that we are able to collect the information we need for your synagogue in another way, for example through your synagogue movement. You are welcome to call us if you have any questions about this survey. Please contact the JPR Synagogue Membership Survey Team on 0800 044 5077 or email
